JOHANNESBURG – Pikkie Greeff of the South African National Defense Union says it wants to see swift action on the Air Force flight to Zimbabwe, following the investigations, despite saying last week it made sense for the minister to share her airplane.

Greef has compared the recent incident, where a delegation of senior members of the African National Congress (ANC) used state resources to travel to a meeting with the ruling ZANU-PF in Zimbabwe.

“I don’t think the investigation is quick if you listen to all the parties involved and get a sort of ‘Gupta-Esque’ feeling on the whole Waterkloof debacle.”

The ANC said the situation in Zimbabwe is a crisis that requires national attention, which justifies party members traveling with state resources.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is now considering a report submitted by the Defense Minister, detailing the circumstances surrounding the controversial trip to Zimbabwe.

On Friday, the president gave the minister 48 hours to explain why she shared a flight on the Air Force plane last week with a high-level delegation of ANC leaders.

The Defense Ministry said the minister signed the report over the weekend, before it was presented to the president.

President Ramaphosa’s office has confirmed that it is considering the report and will comment later.

The content of the presented report is not yet known, however, many civil rights organizations and political parties have called for swift action from the president.
