Pre-orders for Microsoft’s next-generation game consoles, Xbox Series X and Series S, are now available in South Africa.
The recommended sale prices for the two consoles are as follows:
- Xbox Series X – R11,999
- Xbox Series S – R6,999
Consoles differ in terms of graphics power, storage, and layouts.
The X Series comes with a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU with 12 teraflops and 1TB SSD storage, while the S Series offers 4 teraflops of graphics processing power and a 512GB SSD.
Microsoft claimed that this hardware will allow the X Series to offer 4K resolution games at up to 120 fps, and the S Series to offer 1440p games at up to 120 fps.
In terms of design, the S Series comes in Robot White and is about 60% smaller than the Carbon Black X Series.
Controllers and accessories
Each console includes a new X Series controller | S, while an additional unit can be purchased separately at a suggested retail price of R1,399.
These controllers will be available in Carbon Black and Robot White, to match the respective X Series and S Series colors.
Other accessories for the controller include a rechargeable external battery and a wireless adapter for Windows 10, which are expected to be available on the console’s launch date of November 10.
Xbox South Africa has yet to confirm the pricing for these items.
According to Microsoft’s launch schedule, pre-orders for consoles and controllers will open at 09:00 on Tuesday morning.

Demand is expected to be high
Several South African retailers have saying MyBroadband expect the demand for Xbox consoles to be high.
Loot stated that unlike the PlayStation 5, the consoles will not be subject to strictly enforced allowances in South Africa.
The PS5 sold out at most retailers within hours of being available for pre-order last week.
“The number available for Loot will depend entirely on the acceptance of pre-orders in South Africa,” he said.
BT Games explained that it has received a larger allocation for this console and has the option to get more stock in case it runs out.
“Microsoft has prioritized South Africa with the allocation of shares and believes that it will be able to meet increased demand,” said BT Games.
Raru noted on his wish lists for consoles, the current ratio favors demand for Xbox Series X at 3: 1 over Series S.
