WWE Clash of Champions: Roman Reigns is now showing just how good a heel he can be

‘The Big Dog’, now known as the Tribal Chief, produced arguably one of the strongest and most compelling performances of his WWE career last Sunday on ‘Clash of Champions’ by delivering a brutal beating to his real life cousin. Jey Uso.

In fact, Twitter fans rightly praised Reigns’ performance, with one even saying, “We just saw some of the best WWE storytelling of the last decade at that main event. Roman Reigns couldn’t feel more like a superior kid. Amazing.”

Another, meanwhile, claimed: “Roman Reigns is now the best heel in WWE.”

While the outcome of the match proved to be predictable, it was certainly over the top when it came to establishing Reigns as the heel that the entire WWE Universe thought he could be.

Reigns made a surprise comeback at SummerSlam in August, debuting as a solo heel for the first time.

‘The Big Dog’ subsequently captured the universal title a week after his return, defeating The Fiend and Braun Strowman at Payback.

Along with his new advisor Paul Heyman, who is primarily associated with being Brock Lesnar’s manager, Reigns has undergone an impressive character transformation.

This was epitomized in Clash of Champions when he debuted his new shirtless look and ditched his SWAT outfit, which he has been synonymous with since his Shield days.

What followed was a performance worthy of the superstar that WWE and Vince McMahon always wanted it to be, albeit with a lot more attitude and far from the facial trick they had dreamed of.

It also goes some way to redeem the rather disappointing fight with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 in 2017. That fight was destined to be Reigns’ great launching pad and would mean ‘The Deadman’ passed the torch on to the new generation. Sadly, this didn’t happen the way WWE wanted.

Instead, rather than a big name main entrant, it took a fighter who is predominantly known as a tag team rather than a singles competitor to bring out the best in Reigns.

He also ensured that Jey Uso had his great performance as a solo fighter.

The main event ended with a brutal beating from the now Tribal Chief, resulting in Jey’s twin brother Jimmy Uso going down into the ring and throwing in the towel and telling Reigns what he finally wanted to hear, that he was the Chief. Tribal.

Hopefully this will be the first of many memorable moments Reigns will be participating in on SmackDown in the weeks and months to come.
