A recap of Day 3 action in the final matches of South Africa’s 4-day franchise series:

Third consecutive ton for Markram

Aiden Markram scored his third ton in as many innings on the third day of the Titans’ 4-day domestic clash against the Cape Cobras on Wednesday.

Starting on Day 136/1 in search of the 411 posted by Cobras, Markram (113) and Neil Brand (115) led the way for the Pretoria franchise as they logged 440 in total in innings lasting 134.4 overs.

The pair were supported by Bongumusa Makhanya (55) while Calvin Savage was the Cobras ‘bowlers’ choice, finishing 5/77 at 22.4 overs.

The Cobras were 33/0 on the stumps, a four-run lead on the final day.

Cobras: 411 and 33/0

Titans: 440 total (Markram 113, Brand 115, Savage 5/77).

Cobras lead by 4 races with 10 wickets in hand

Dupavillion’s 11 wickets lead the Dolphins to Knights victory

Daryn Dupavillon finished with 11 wickets in the game as the Dolphins rose to the top of their 4-day Franchise Series group with a five wicket victory over the Knights midway through the third day in Durban on Wednesday.

The Proteas fast pitcher took four of 66 to go seven of 38 in the opening innings as 13 wickets fell in the 47.4 overs thrown on what turned out to be the final day at Kingsmead Stadium.

It meant that Dupavillon finished with the best 11 of his career at 104, the second 10 in his first-class career and the best bowling alley by a runner in match history.

His exploits, along with those of Senuran Muthusamy (3/45), left the Knights speechless and undone all the hard work that had been done the day before.

In what was a low-scoring affair on the East Coast, the Central Franchise had been impressed by 116 in their first innings, and the home team responded with 253.

However, Allan Donald’s side made his way on the second day reaching stumps at 150 for two and a 13-run lead.

But they couldn’t take advantage of that, losing their remaining eight wickets for just 57.

Dupavillon began the slide by taking out night watchman Migael Pretorius by eight, before Prenelan Subrayen cleared Patrick Botha by six.

Top scorer Matthew Kleinveldt was eliminated by Khaya Zondo by 77 (191 balls, 12 fours) and Dupavillon cleared Grant Mokoena (3) as well as Wandile Makwetu (19).

Another Proteas player, Muthusamy then ran down the tail, with Farhaan Behardien (18) the last man in the star fast thrower.

That left the Dolphins with the need to chase a goal of 77 and they made it heavy, before Keegan Petersen’s 28 undefeated carried them over the line at 78 for five.

Shaun von Berg was their nemesis with three of 12, but ultimately the lack of runs turned out to be the visitors’ undoing as they suffered a second straight loss.

Gentlemen: 116 and 213 (Kleinveldt 77, Dupavillon 4/66)

Dolphins 253 and 78/5 (Petersen 28 *, Von Berg 3/12)

The dolphins won by 5 wickets

Lions in command in clash with Warriors

After starting the third day at 125/3 and with a 386-race lead, the Gauteng-based franchise declared at 241/5 with Wiaan Mulder scoring 100 *.

That left the Warriors with a whopping 513 to win and at the end of the game, they were 219/5 after losing to top scorer Mohammad Vallie (85) while Rudi Second (79) remained undefeated and their last hope.

Warriors 118 and 219/5
