Woman Allegedly Raped at Mossel Bay COVID-19 Quarantine Facility

CAPE TOWN – A woman was allegedly raped while in quarantine at a Mossel Bay facility.

The Western Cape Department of Transportation and Public Works confirmed that it had received a report about the incident at one of its COVID-19 quarantine and isolation facilities in the coastal city.

Department officials said the incident occurred on Friday. The woman was in quarantine and was due to go home on Saturday.

Spokesman Jandre Bakker said the suspect is an employee of the cleaning company there.

“The alleged victim has been transferred from the place by the Department of Health to a different place and is receiving the necessary support,” Bakker said.

The suspect was arrested and the case is under investigation by the police.
