Here are the Lobos morning headlines for Wednesday, September 23.

Semedo confirms the departure of Barcelona

Nelson Semedo has confirmed his departure from Barcelona when he closes his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Wolves have agreed to sign the Portugal international from La Liga for around £ 30 million.

The 26-year-old will arrive as a direct replacement for Matt Doherty, who ended his decade-long stay at Molineux to join Tottenham earlier in the transfer window.

The move has yet to be formally confirmed by Wolves, but Semedo took to social media to announce his departure from Barca on Tuesday night.

In a post on Instagram he wrote: “Thank you Barcelona for giving me the opportunity to live the dream of wearing this shirt, of playing at the Camp Nou, of learning and enjoying the best in the world.”

What Semedo will bring to the Wolves

Given that he’s set to replace Doherty, it seems prudent to compare Semedo to the Irishman. writes Matthew Gault.

As the Wyscout heat maps show, Semedo is active in the attacking third, which is not that surprising for a Barcelona winger.

However, it is interesting that he seems to have been even more active than Doherty in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

Given Doherty’s reputation as one of the most effective attacking backs in the Premier League, this bodes well for how Semedo will adapt to Nuno’s system.

Semedo is also a much more frequent dribbler than Doherty, who is best known for his excellent off-the-ball movement, with 4.42 shot attempts compared to 1.94.

Liverpool ask for ‘trust’ after Wolves’ agreements for Jota and Hoever

Liverpool fans have been urged to ‘trust’ Jurgen Klopp’s judgment after the double deal with the Wolves for Diogo Jota and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Jota left the Wolves in a deal that could fetch £ 45 million, making him the fourth most expensive player in Anfield history.

The Portuguese forward scored 44 goals in 131 games during his three seasons at Molineux, which he initially joined on loan from Atlético de Madrid in 2017.

Hoever, a highly skilled Dutch defender, moved in the opposite direction and the Wolves were expected to pay an initial £ 10 million for the 18-year-old.

And former Reds favorite John Alridge has backed Jota to succeed while also discussing the decision to let Hoever join Nuno’s side.

Wolves fans took a huge blow to hopes of Molineux’s return

A government minister warned of a challenging time for the sport, as he confirmed that plans to welcome fans to stadiums have been scrapped, giving Wolverhampton Wanderers fans a major blow to their hopes of a return of Molineux in the short term.

It was previously expected that fans would be able to return to limited-capacity soccer fields beginning Oct. 1, with stadiums 25 to 33 percent full.

Wolves fans haven’t been to a game involving their team since March 7, when Brighton and Hove Albion held them to a goalless draw.

It has been a long wait to return to normality for the day, but it is expected to last even longer.

It was expected that fans could start coming back on a limited basis starting in October, but now that’s no longer the case.
