Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Says State Doesn’t Need President Trump’s Visit

Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes said Sunday that the state does not need President Donald Trump’s visit, following his “inflammatory remarks” about the racial protests in the city of Kenosha.

Trump, who has taken a tough stance against racial protests in the country, will visit Kenosha on Tuesday, a White House spokesman said late on Saturday. Protests have erupted in the city after the murder of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man, who was shot by a white policeman.

“They focused an entire convention on creating more animosity and creating more division around what is happening in Kenosha,” Barnes said on CNN.

“So I don’t know how, given the previous statements the president made, he intends to come here to help, and we don’t need him at all at this point,” he added.

Blake’s shooting, in front of three of his sons, made the mostly white city of 100,000 south of Milwaukee the latest flash point in a summer of protests across the United States against police brutality and racism.

Barnes also asked Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden to “take over” and come up with a clear plan to address racial inequalities.
