The former Bidvest Wits coach is aware that the fans do not want boring football from their team, but warned that the important thing is the results.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has spelled out his intentions as he is about to embark on a journey to recapture the glory days at Naturena.

The 56-year-old mentor was appointed to a three-year contract Thursday to try to get the team back where it belongs.

This after narrowly missing the league title to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the 2019-20 season.

“Hopefully we can have a nice stay and win some trophies. If you look at the history of the football club from my time in 1981 as a player against them, to see where the club has grown, for me then it was the biggest football club in South Africa, from the point of view of the fans and the trophies, “Hunt told the Amakhosi media team.

“The last few years have been a bit sterile and hopefully we can change that.”

Hunt admitted that the situation for him is different than when he was a player, when they wanted to silence Amakhosi’s fans, as he now has an obligation to bring smiles to millions of fans.

However, he expects a difficult journey ahead.

“But obviously this is totally different from when we were always the ones who played against the Chiefs and tried to calm the fans, now we have to cheer on the fans and it won’t be easy,” he added.

After five full seasons without a major trophy, Hunt realizes that he needs to deliver the silverware, as the club hired him for that.

He also stressed that the Chiefs should play the kind of football that is enjoyed but, at the same time, emphasized that winning is one of their priorities.

“We need to win because winning is what generates a little [of confidence] But we also have to play in a way that people enjoy, but winning has to be definitely the first prize, “Hunt concluded.

The Cape Town-born manager has an impressive record with four league titles to his name in more than two decades as a coach at PSL.

That’s the same number of league titles Amakhosi has in the PSL era and the last trophy came during Stuart Baxter’s tenure at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
