Cape Town – Western Cape Prime Minister Alan Winde was scathing in his criticism of Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, who continued to pour billions of rand from taxpayers into SAA, negatively affecting service budgets health, among others.
Perhaps Minister Mboweni’s blatant lies about how our world-class hospitals operate were intended to hide the fact that he was underfunding key healthcare services in the province amid a pandemic in favor of serving ‘chicken or beef’ in heaven, “Winde said in a statement Wednesday after Mboweni delivered his medium-term budget policy statement.
He also lashed out at Mboweni for not “making the difficult decisions that this great moment in our country required.”
” To finance this R10.5 billion (SAA) bailout, Minister Mboweni has cut the budgets of national departments, including the police, as well as provincial budgets.
” In the Western Cape, budget cuts will directly affect health services, as well as reduce agricultural subsidies that target food security and land transformation and promote dignity through ownership.
” As Minister David Maynier noted, the province has lost more than R60 million in key health care grants, including: R19.72 million from our HIV, TB, malaria and community grant; 30 million rand of the grant which is essential to maintain and develop health services in tertiary hospitals in the province; and rand 11 million from a grant to improve clinical training and supervision of health science apprentices and increase the capacity of our health workforce in the Western Cape.
As of 1 p.m. on Oct. 28, the Western Cape had 3,122 active Covid-19 infections, with a total of 115,431 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 107,958 recoveries, Winde said.
