Will they save the Manchester United window?

At the time of writing, Manchester United have only signed Donny van de Beek and appear to be close to officially announcing the signing of Edinson Cavani, but what constitutes a good summer transfer window?

There are less than 48 hours left with the deadline set at 11pm on October 5, but those in charge at Old Trafford have never been so disorderly.

It’s a transfer window reminiscent of the one that took place after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, but at least then United had a roster full of champions.

Fans would love to see players like Alex Telles and Jadon Sancho sign and while it seems incredibly unlikely, it’s not impossible in soccer craze that it still happens.

The question arises of what is a good window for the Red Devils and if signing the aforementioned players is good enough all things considered.

Sancho, Telles, Cavani and Van de Beek on paper is a brilliant summer and one that the fans would have accepted had they been asked to do so before it all started.

However, given the way the window has been developed, it could be argued that even if Manchester United somehow signs them all, nothing can repair the damage that has been done.

There will always be a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth after watching his club get embarrassed all summer and failing to sign Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the season started as requested.

There is always a sense of chaos and lack of planning that is naturally associated with United, no matter how they do business.

Surely there are better ways of doing things? The fans will be happy if everything goes well, but the way the club acted will always remain in the back of their minds.

Maybe those in charge will be lucky this time, but how long will it take until their luck runs out? How long before their incompetence completely destroys Manchester United and not just embarrasses them?

The transfer window this summer has been one of the strangest in living memory. So remember the less stressful days and test your knowledge of United’s past arrivals and departures in our quiz below.
