JOHANNESBURG – The National Working Committee (NWC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is ready to meet again as it struggles to find common ground on whether criminally implicated members should resign.
Eyewitness news understands that the NWC discussed the issue during their meeting Monday, however, no final proposal was reached. The NWC meeting is ahead of the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting over the weekend and many anticipate that the issue will come into sharp focus.

Members of the NWC could not agree on the way forward when the 2017 conference resolution was reached that the criminal defendants should step aside.
Sources who attended the meeting said Eyewitness news that a group that claims to sympathize with the party’s general secretary wants the legal opinions requested in this regard to be aired first.
But another group, which called for decisive action against Magashule and others facing criminal charges, is said to have argued that there was no need for lawyers, as those who joined the ANC did so knowing that it had its own constitution and rules, which must be adhered to. . A special NWC is now on the cards in hopes of reaching some conclusion that will be presented to the NEC.
Divisions in the NWC on the issue are expected to develop at the last NEC meeting of the party year, which will take place over the weekend.
