- An inexperienced Springbok team could participate in the Rugby Championship.
- A report indicates that Sharks center Lukhanyo Am is in line for the captaincy.
- SA Rugby is believed to be eager to send a Springbok team to Australia due to the financial boost it would provide.
Shark center Lukhanyo Am has been linked with the Springbok captaincy for the Rugby Championship later this year.
According to the sunday time, SA Rugby rugby manager Rassie Erasmus is considering bringing an inexperienced Springbok team to Australia.
A source told the weekly newspaper that Springbok senior officials estimate the team will be “poorly prepared” for the event, given that New Zealand and Australia have been playing rugby for an extended period.
“They will take a younger group, with Lukhanyo Am in the race to be the captain and they will be looking for guys like Curwin Bosch, Aphelele Fassi and a guy like Sanele Nohamba is certainly not out of the race,” the source is quoted as saying.
Despite the lack of playing time, SA Rugby is believed to be eager to send a team from Springbok to participate due to the financial implications.
The Rugby Championship will be played in Australia between November 7 and December 12, after the governing body Sanzaar chose New Zealand as host.
