Goal takes a look at the three players who could be affected by the arrival of the former trio Wits
Pitso Mosimane and his Mamelodi Sundowns technical team will have to make decisions regarding their personnel before the 2020/21 season.
The Tshwane team reinforced their already formidable roster with their latest reinforcements in the form of Ricardo Goss, Haashim Domingo and Gift Motupa on Saturday.
Coach Mosimane recently explained that they will have to lay off several players from their team following the recent wave of spending at the club.
The Brazilians have signed 10 new players, including Domingo, Goss and Motupa, who have found a new home in Chloorkop’s team after parting ways with Bidvest Wits.
objective Take a look at the three Sundowns players who could be affected by the arrival of the aforementioned trio:
Goss In – Pieterse Out
Pieterse was expected to compete with Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene in the Sundowns goalkeeping department and try to evict the former as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
However, the former Kaizer Chiefs stopper has found playing time difficult in Masandawana as he is considered the third-choice goalkeeper and has also lost his place in Bafana Bafana’s team.
Pieterse was part of the national team when he joined the Sundowns in 2018 from SuperSport United, where he played his best football while competing with Ronwen Williams.
The 28-year-old was unable to make a single appearance with Sundowns during the 2019/20 campaign and the arrival of Goss could have the club dumping him with Maritzburg United reportedly interested in him.
Sunday in, Mohomi out
Mohomi is a forgotten man and his move to Sundowns turned out to be a nightmare when he joined the club in 2016 from the Free State Stars as a highly rated attacking midfielder.
The 29-year-old’s career has stalled in Masandawana, where he has not appeared in the league in the past two seasons as he has fallen out of favor with Mosimane.
However, Mohomi’s inactivity hasn’t stopped clubs from showing their interest in the player, who is blessed with the ability to create and score goals.
Sundowns confirmed they had discussions with SuperSport United about Mohomi’s services last season and the club is more likely to sell him after acquiring budding playmaker Domingo.
Motupa inside, rock outside
Meza was hired by Sundowns prior to the 2018/19 campaign from Oriente Petrolero, where he had scored an impressive 32 goals in two Bolivian First Division seasons.
Much was expected of the Venezuelan player at the Tshwane giants, but he has not lived up to expectations by failing to score a single goal in the league in his debut campaign.
Meza, a utility player who can play both as a midfielder and forward, is coming off another bad season where he scored once in 16 league appearances and Sundowns is reportedly considering selling him.
Former Bolivian champion Club Bolívar is said to be eager to sign Meza and Masandawana might be tempted to sell him after buying another midfielder and forward at Motupa.
