Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly told Paul Pogba that he wants him to build a midfield partnership with Bruno Fernandes. The duo have yet to line up with each other since the latter’s arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January. But while Pogba’s future is in doubt, his manager has high hopes for him.

Pogba has missed most of the Manchester United season due to injury, with the 2018 World Cup winner making just eight appearances in all competitions.

The latter returned on the day of boxing, when the Red Devils beat Newcastle 4-1 at Old Trafford with a sublime attack performance.

So far, Pogba has been unable to play alongside Fernandes, who has had a surprising impact on United since his arrival in January from Sporting Lisbon.

Fernandes has been involved in six goals in eight games since signing, increasing the Red Devils’ chances of ending up in the Champions League qualifying positions along the way.

And The Mirror reports that Solskjaer told Pogba that he wants him to build a good partnership with the Portugal international in the middle of the park.

The United star is now finally back in shape.

He allegedly sees the two midfielders as capable of providing ammunition for characters like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

And United fans will now no doubt be excited at the prospect of the couple playing alongside each other after months of waiting.

Pogba has not climbed the heights many expected of him since he landed at Juventus in the summer of 2016.

But recently, Fernandes defended the 27-year-old.

“We can say in soccer that people usually forget what you do well when you have a mistake,” Fernandes told United’s official website.

“You can do good for 34 games, and one game you do bad and everyone will remember.”

“Paul is coming from a bad time, due to the situation.

“When he also played, the club and the team were not good, because expectations are high for Paul, because Paul is a superior player and Manchester United pays a lot for him, and expectations are high for him.

“It’s normal when you’re in that situation, you don’t play like a superstar, because everyone expects Paul like they expect from (Cristiano) Ronaldo at Juventus or (Lionel) Messi in Barcelona.”

“Everyone expects this from Paul in Manchester because they know he has the qualities for this.”

“This too is confidence in Paul. The team, we have a lot of confidence in Paul. “
