Johannesburg – The ANC Secretary General (SG) arrest warrant battle gained momentum on Thursday when hundreds of ANC members from the Free State, Mpumalanga and KZN arrived at the Luthuli House in Joburg.

On Tuesday night, Independent Media received a tip that there was an arrest warrant addressed to Magashule. After many attempts to obtain confirmation from the Hawks and Magashule, the SG answered our questions.

He confirmed that he was aware of the impending arrest.

“I am aware, I am aware. It’s going to be a Hollywood-style kind of arrest. “

About 30 minutes after the IOL posted the story, the Hawks distanced themselves from any knowledge of the court order. “We don’t know about the warrant or the arrest,” the Hawks said. Magashule quickly refuted the Hawks saying, “They can’t turn it now. There is a court order and they were coming for me. “

In an interview Thursday, he stood firm saying the warrant was still available. “I know what they were planning. They wanted an arrest in Hollywood with all the cameras to capture it.

“Now they are afraid to admit it. I keep saying it doesn’t have to be a Hollywood style. You just have to tell me what I’ve done. I am a law abiding citizen. There was no need for Hollywood. “

Apparently, although Magashule was convinced that there was a court order, the “file” was at the Directorate of Investigations (ID).

The ID is an investigative unit that reports directly to President Cyril Ramaphosa and investigates “serious crimes”, which often lead to corruption and money laundering.

On Wednesday, around 100 people, mostly young people, camped in front of Casa Luthuli calling on the “president of the ANC not to use state organs to fight political battles.”

The group was clearly from the Free State.

On Thursday, Magashule’s attorney, Victor Nkhwashu, said he had written to the Hawks and the NPA to demand the reasons for the order.

“I have not seen the order. SABC and Independent Media wrote the same thing at the same time. It cannot be a coincidence. We are informed that there was a plan to arrest Mr. Magashule but as far as we do not know.

“That is what I am asking you to tell us,” Nkhwashu said.

Among the leaders of the protest march was Reagan Booysen, provincial secretary of the ANC youth league in the Free State.

Another prominent figure was Member of Parliament Thabo Mmutle.

Shortly after tweets of a court order directed at Magashule circulated on Twitter, the Free State youth league was one of the first to express its support for Magashule.

In addition to defending Magashule, the protesters also defended former President Jacob Zuma, an ally of the Secretary General.

“We want an NGC, it’s time to save our party,” the crowd shouted.

The National General Council (NGC) was stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
