‘We’re lacking players in certain positions’ – Kaizer Chiefs’ Hunt reacts to Cas’s failed appeal

The accomplished tactician has explained how they will manage without being able to register new players.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has shared his thoughts on the club’s failure to overturn the transfer ban issued by FIFA.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) dismissed the Soweto giants’ appeal against a two-window transfer ban on Tuesday.

The Chiefs will not be able to sign up new players for two consecutive transfer windows and this has affected Hunt’s plans in his first season with the Glamor Boys.

Hunt led Amakhosi to a 1-0 win over Chippa United in the PSL match on Tuesday night and the former Bidvest Wits head coach discussed the transfer ban during the post-match press conference.

“I’ve been working here for the last month with the illusion that it wasn’t going to be delivered, and it wasn’t, so I have to improve it,” Hunt told the media.

“I’m going to try to improve the team trying to improve the players.”

The Soweto giants were punished with a ban after being found guilty of illegally signing Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana in 2018.

Andrianarimanana’s former Malagasy club, Fosa Juniors, filed a complaint with FIFA stating that the Chiefs did not justifiably compensate them for the player’s transfer.

The Chiefs have linked up with several former Wits players, including Thabang Monare and Deon Hotto, who have joined archrivals Orlando Pirates.

Hunt explained that he will have work with what he has at his disposal at the Naturena giants.

“I mean obviously we know that there are certain players in certain positions where we are lacking, but it is what it is and I have to move on,” added the four-time PSL title-winning coach.

“So one step ahead, we try to mold the players the way I think and what I’m trying to do, and we’ll go from there.”

The former Wits duo of Sifiso Hlanti and Phathutshedzo Nange have been training with Chiefs while the club awaited Cas’s decision.

It remains to be seen if the duo will continue to train with the Glamor Boys with the banned transfer club until July 2021.

The four-time PSL champions are reportedly interested in former Wits goalkeeper Brandon Peterson, who is also a free agent.
