Cape Town – With the Covid-19 death toll in the Western Cape at 5,097 and rising, New Somerset Hospital Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Lauricia Bailey has addressed an erroneous assumption among the public amidst a resurgence of infections.
“What people don’t understand is that they keep saying that we are the front line. They were not. We are pretty much the last line of defense, ”he said in a video posted by the Western Cape Health Department, urging people to take the threat more seriously.
“It is nothing we can describe to anyone. It is something they have to do with it and I think what is quite disappointing is that the public does not take it so seriously. All the time, while people die.
” It starts at home. It starts with people wearing masks, social distancing, washing their hands and protecting themselves, because we can’t do that for you. ”
