JOHANNESBURG – SA Tourism said that the sector would have to endure the hammering of COVID-19 as it arrived this festive season.

There is concern that this year’s vacation period will have a ripple effect on tourism with uncertainty over whether it is safe or even advisable to make travel arrangements.

Many European countries are currently experiencing a second wave and there are concerns that South Africa may do the same in the coming months.

SA Executive Director of Tourism Sisa Ntshona said: “It’s about the comfort zone, people really have the confidence to travel within their proximity.”

More than 792,000 people have contracted the virus in South Africa since the outbreak was detected in the country in March.
