The South African Meteorological Service has warned of the possibility of localized flooding from rains and thunderstorms in Gauteng and other regions.
The South African Meteorological Service issued a yellow level alert, warning of the possibility of “localized flooding from rainfall and thunderstorms” in various parts of the country on Sunday.
Thunder storms can be expected in Gauteng, South West Limpopo, Weestern and Northern Highveld of Mpumalanga, and the eastern parts of the North West province.
The alert warns of “heavy rains causing localized flooding of susceptible roads and low-lying areas,” as well as “hail of a harmful nature.”
Residents of the Rustenburg area are warned of “localized damage to infrastructure, settlements, property, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock, as well as localized and short-term disruptions to municipal and other essential services.
“Localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges is expected. Minor vehicle accidents are expected due to reduced visibility and slippery roads and disruption of peak morning traffic. “
Similar warnings have been trouble for residents of Hartebeespoort, Koster and Pilanesburg.
Johannesburg can expect an 80% chance of rain, with showers and thunderstorms expected for Gauteng through Monday.
