Durban – Emam Bux Meats Wholesale and Retail has criticized allegations that a truckload of zebra carcasses was destined for their refrigerators.
A Hestony truck was reported to have rolled over on the N12 near Kimberley. Photographs from the scene of the accident circulated on social media shortly after showing zebra carcasses.
It is alleged that later in the day, a message was shared on social media platforms stating that the upload was for Emam Bux.
While Emam Bux admitted that they used Hestony to transport their meat, the retailer said there were other companies that used Hestony to transport products.
As received.

In a lengthy statement on her Facebook page, Emam Bux criticized the rumors.
“Emam Bux Meats is a household name in South Africa, supplying quality and affordable produce for several years. All of our meat is Halaal certified and sourced from abattoirs that meet all standards.
“A post that says Emam Bux is selling zebra meat is circulating on social media. The post is accompanied by three images, two of which are of an overturned truck with Hestony’s name on it and the other of a shipment of zebras. The images are accompanied by a message warning people that Emam Bux is selling zebra meat.
“Our company has a strong view of this misleading publication,” said the meat retailer.
Emam Bux added that the post was the work of a disgruntled opponent in the meat industry who could not compete with their prices.
Emam Bux then obtained a letter from Hestony clarifying where the zebra meat was headed.
According to Tarina Klokow, general manager of Logistic Refrigerated Services in Hestony, the truck was loaded in Limpopo and was on its way to a customer in the Eastern Cape when there was an accident on the N12 near Kimberley.
“The post is malicious and designed to tarnish our good reputation in the market. It doesn’t make sense because the images have been grouped together to convey a distorted view,” said Emam Bux.
