JOHANNESBURG – The Hawks said Tuesday they were not necessarily embarrassed by the escape of fugitives Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, who fled the country in violation of their bail conditions.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the Bushiris, who have around 48 hours left before they must appear before the Pretoria Magistrates Court.
The combined bail of R400,000 has been lost.
Their bond has already been revoked and if they don’t appear in court on Thursday, they will lose their residence here as well.
Katlego Mogale of the Hawks said: “We are also requesting an arrest notice with Interpol, which means that the police in this country will now speak to the police in Malawi through Interpol in case it is not available on Thursday.
“I would not necessarily say that we are ashamed because the only thing that is different from everything else is that Bushiri was in the media space. At the end of the day, we and the courts trust him, saying that he would abide by the rules set by the court. , but he didn’t. ”
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi admitted Eyewitness news on Monday, that government was fighting to secure the country’s borders.
