A war of words has broken out between the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, the president of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), Kebby Maphatsoe, and his spokesman Carl Niehaus.

This comes amid an expected march Monday by the MKMVA to the ANC’s headquarters at Luthuli House, as well as to the office of Gauteng Prime Minister David Makhura.

In a statement, MK veterans said the march will be held to highlight the plight of the poor, corruption, forgotten freedom fighters, a lawsuit for the arrest of apartheid killers and for the arrest of Mbalula for the damaged rail network, among other things. .

This prompted Mbalula to take a tangent on social media, calling Maphatsoe a coward and Niehaus a criminal.

Mbalula later tweeted that Maphatsoe escaped from the ANC military camps, claiming that he had lost his hand due to cowardice.

Maphatsoe replied, yelling Mbalula’s “arrogance”.

“He believes he is the leader of a gang. His arrogance is unbearable. He has been insulting us for a long time and we have been silent. Since Mbalula entered as Minister of Transportation, he removed the rail security and as a result has cost him [the] economy of the country, “Maphatsoe said of Mbalula.

News24 understands that the canceled private security contracts, which were terminated in April, may be at the heart of this saga, with some accused of having alleged links to the MKMVA affected by the source security decision for the trains of the country.

Reacting to the news of the march on social media, Mbalula said: “They organize tired self-defense units and call themselves MK in the old Gupta-sponsored camouflage uniform, even warned.”

After criticizing Mbalula as “arrogant and incompetent”, the MKMVA leader said that Mbalula has failed as minister in all his designated portfolios.

He said:

You can tweet whatever you want, it shows that you are panicking. It has been negligent with the national hot spots and we hope that the ANC and the president [Cyril Ramaphosa] to act on that. I am not afraid of Mbalula, but we are not going to talk about war with Mbalula. He is a boy. You should keep tweeting. There is nothing correct that he has done since he became a minister in all his portfolios. He’s just ruining them.

Maphatsoe said the march was organized to put pressure on the ANC government over the problems faced by ex-combatants. The MKMVA said that its members were suffering under ANC rule as many of them had starved to death.

He said Makhura should account for his “lax” attitude towards corruption, including the accusations against Gauteng Bandile Masuku’s former health MEC.

On Friday, News24 reported that Makhura had decided to relieve Masuku of his responsibilities based on the findings of a preliminary report from the Special Investigation Unit. It found that it had “not fulfilled its function in accordance with the Constitution and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).”

However, Makhura said that he would wait for a final report to decide whether to reinstall Masuku or not.

“I never expected a comrade Premier to do it. Somehow he’s saying, ‘Yes, I accept the report, but at the end of the day I don’t accept that he [Masuku] You must leave ‘. Makhura must comply [the] decision of [the] SIU, especially when it comes to Covid-19, “Maphatsoe said.
