JOHANNESBURG – Former African National Congress deputy Vincent Smith received a bail of 30,000 rand at Palm Ridge Magistrates Court.
Smith faces fraud and corruption charges related to the state capture.
He appeared before the Zondo Commission earlier this year, where he was questioned about the 800,000 rand he received from Bosasa.
Smith began his day at the Alberton Police Station, where he turned himself in to the Hawks.
He then made a brief appearance in Palm Ridge Magistrates Court, where he requested bail.

His lawyers stated that he was not at risk of flight and that he would not interfere with any of the witnesses.
They also argued that it was not in the interest of justice to keep Smith behind bars, to which the judge agreed.
The state did not object to the bond, saying there was no reason for Smith to be behind bars pending his trial.
He is expected to return to court on October 14.
