Cheslin Kolbe gave the credit to his teammates after their starring role in Toulouse’s Heineken Champions Cup win over Ulster. The South Africa wing’s two attempts at a 36-8 win helped ensure that for the fourth time in this century there will be no Irish team in the semi-finals as Ulster followed Leinster through the starting gate.

“Scoring attempts is always great, it’s the icing on the cake, but I must give my teammates credit. Without them, extremes are nothing, “said Kolbe.

“They give us the way forward to capitalize. We stuck to what was expected and the forwards got the win line for us to create the opportunities.

“The quarterfinal games are about opportunity and discipline and they were outstanding. But there are still many things that we can improve for next week.

“We just have to make sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves and keep working as hard as we can. There are two more games left and I hope we can make history again and make our fans, the jersey and ourselves proud ”.

Kolbe’s first attempt came with Ulster center James Hulme injured and then outside midfielder Billy Burns left in the 16th minute. That interrupted Ulster and the visitors played with John Cooney at wing and winger Michael Lowry at 10.

Kolbe scored again shortly before the break and Antoine Dupont, Pita Ahki and Thomas Ramos crossed after the break.

Ulster’s only points came from Cooney’s try and penalty and they stayed to lick their wounds after coming up short for the second consecutive weekend in a major cup tie. Last weekend they were defeated in the PRO14 final by Leinster.

“Toulouse are a good team and when you make mistakes they will punish you. The slightest mistake and they’re ready to score, ”said Ulster head coach Dan McFarland.

“They showed that and they are a great team. On the flip side of things, we know we didn’t feel like a quarter-final team today.

“We have to make sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves.”

“For some reason we haven’t been playing very well after the break and that’s how it looked today. They punished us and we deserved it.

“We are just not playing very well at the moment, that’s the bottom line.
