In the recording, a man is apparently assaulted at the White River Police Station.
FF Plus MP Werner Weber said the party has demanded that the matter be fully investigated.
“The persons in question, Barend Byliefeldt and Delia Jordaan, allege that they were attacked by members of a private security company, whose name is known by FF Plus. The incident took place after Byliefeldt and Jordaan recorded a video of a convoy, of which the company in question was a part, accompanying several vehicles that allegedly represented a risk to other road users, “Weber said.
When members of the convoy noticed that Byliefeldt and Jordaan were filming them, the pair were forced to stop at a roundabout. The couple was then allegedly threatened with firearms and their vehicle was damaged, Weber added.
“They were taken to the White River Police Station and that’s where the assault allegedly took place. Jordaan recorded the incident on his cell phone. The video shows Byliefeldt being assaulted and even kicked in the head in an attempt to take the phone from him. Al In the end, they took the phone from him and broke it, “Weber said.
Police aware of the video
Police management in Mpumalanga said they are aware of the video, “in which people are involved in a physical altercation at the White River police station,” said police spokesman Brig. Leonard Hlathi.
“This incident is unfortunate and shows anarchy on the part of the people involved, as a police station is not a battlefield. The conduct of the people who participated in the physical fight is unacceptable and the man in the video looks pressed The ground is urged to register a criminal case for investigative purposes, “Hlathi said.
He said Ehlanzeni District Commissioner Major General Dianah Mashele has established a team led by two senior police officers to investigate this matter at the departmental level and examine the conduct of police officers who were on duty that day.
The incident was also reported to the Investigations Directorate of the Independent Police.
“A criminal case of intentional damage to property and crime of injury has been opened against the man who was pressured for being accused of colliding with a certain vehicle and allegedly used racial slurs,” Hlathi added.
“The SAPS administration wishes to further inform the public that they will investigate these matters without fear or favor,” Hlathi said.
