Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will visit Edenglen High School in Johannesburg on Wednesday after an “incident of student violence” that allegedly occurred outside the school premises on Tuesday.

In a video that was widely circulated on social media, students can be seen participating in at least three fights in a residential area.

Children are kicked while lying on the ground by groups of other children. A boy with a torn shirt tries to escape, but is again assaulted by a chasing boy. Girls are seen watching.

“It is concerning that students engage in such violence in our environment and it will not be tolerated,” said Lesufi spokesman Steve Mabona.

Lesufi is expected to visit the school at 11:00.
