Brother of famous South African cricketer Vernon Philander, Tyrone was shot and killed in Ravensmead on Wednesday 7th October.
The incident took place at the corner of 7th Avenue and Webner Street, and no arrests have yet been made. Speaking to the EWN, Ravensmead Community Police Forum (CPF) spokesperson Zelda Trantaal confirmed that Tyron Philander, who was 32, was killed during the incident.
What happened before the incident has yet to be confirmed. Tyrone and his mother are believed to be hanging clothes in the backyard when the shots rang out.

In a tweet, Vernon confirmed the death of his brother and asked for privacy to mourn the death with his family.
“Tyrone is forever in our hearts. May your soul rest in peace, ”he said.
