JOHANNESBURG – Former Eskom board member Venete Klein said she was concerned when former board chairman Zola Tsotsi told them that the minister had canceled a meeting.
Tsotsi told the commission that former chairman Jacob Zuma called him to say the meeting would be canceled and then the acting CEO called him with the same message, saying it was from then-Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown.
Later, Brown would call another meeting in early March in which he ordered the board to set up an investigation and suspend the executives.
Those decisions were made at a meeting called by Dudu Myeni at Zuma’s residence in KwaZulu-Natal.
Klein was one of the members who expressed distrust of Tsotsi before he was suspended, saying that he was frustrating to work with because he did not respond to emails and requests to participate.
She previously said she was offended that Tsotsi included her among those he called “members of the Gupta board” and that he associated her with the former minister, Des van Rooyen.
