The body of a three-year-old boy was found over the weekend with a nail through his skull and his eyes and genitals removed. The mutilated body of a child was located by the family in a dense bush in the Thembalihle area of Estcourt, Uthukela district on Friday.
Police said earlier Sunday that a relative was arrested in Estcourt after the boy’s mutilated body was found with a nail inserted into his skull.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Capt.Nqobile Gwala said it is alleged that on Thursday, November 26 at 9 a.m., the girl’s grandmother was at her home in Thembelihle near Estcourt with her three-year-old grandson. when a man known to her entered her. home and took the little boy.
On Friday, when the grandmother came home from work, she noticed that the child was not at home. The man was questioned about the boy’s whereabouts but turned violent, Gwala said.
“It was then that the relatives decided to look for the missing child. At 2 pm, the child was found in the bushes with a nail inserted into the skull and mutilated.”
Police were immediately alerted and responded to the scene.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested for murder. The missing body parts were found inside the suspect’s house. The suspect must appear before the Estcourt Magistrates Court [on Monday].
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, condemned the brutal murder of the innocent child.
“I am glad that the suspect is behind bars to answer for his wrongdoing,” he said.
MEC Khoza said the family found the boy’s body “in a terrible state lying in the bush.” Khoza said it was disheartening that as the country celebrated 16 Days of Activism for Non-Violence Against Women and Children, there were such gruesome killings in the province.
“We do not apologize for asking for maximum prison sentences for those convicted of the murder of women and children. We want anyone involved in any form of gender violence to be removed from society and imprisoned for life. We have too many women and children murdered in our province and in the country ”.

“The police must quickly conclude the investigation and arrest the perpetrators involved in this murder of an innocent child. The police investigation must delve into how this child disappeared at home … This is tragic and the family needs to find closure after this murder, “he said.
Khoza said the government is in deep pain that the lives of women and children continue to perish at the hands of the people to whom they entrusted their lives.
“We call on members of society to isolate those involved in such gruesome killings,” he added. “We do not apologize for asking for maximum prison sentences for those convicted of the murder of women and children. We want all those involved in any form of gender-based violence to be removed from society and imprisoned for life. We have too many women and children murdered. in our province and the country ”, he said.
“Our children cannot play freely because of criminals who continue to steal from the state through illegal connections.”

“Municipalities must ensure that all those involved in the illegal connection of electricity face the law. They must be held accountable for the murder of innocent children. Our children cannot play freely due to criminals who continue to rob the state through illegal connections. We ask the municipal authorities, including the forces of order, not to have an iota of mercy towards the murderers of women and children. ”
He added that as the government continued to promote the rights of women and children, it was imperative that no criminal step out of the trap. “We will continue to raise awareness in society to highlight the seriousness of these violent crimes directed against women and children. But we want all sectors to play their role to reduce these violations of the rights of women and children.” The MEC also sent its deepest condolences to the families who lost their children. A team of social workers has been dispatched to these two separate incidents to provide psychosocial support to affected families.
