JOHANNESBURG – The multi-vehicle crash and fire on the N1 north at the Allandale Road exit in Midrand has been extinguished.

The N1 road is heavily clogged Wednesday afternoon after a major accident.

A truck lost control and crashed, causing a fire.

The emergency services of the city of Johannesburg have reported two deaths and no other injuries.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar previously said:

“The truck was transporting cars when the trucker lost control and drove through the center median. It is confirmed that there are injured people, the number of people has not been established, but at least three lanes, affecting both north and south.”

The JMPD said long delays on the N1, both north and south, are expected to continue into rush hour.

Road users are advised to avoid the N1 between Allandale and New Road and use alternative routes such as Old Pretoria Road or the R55.
