In a statement shared with Channel24, the family of veteran actor Menzi Ngubane confirmed that the star died at his home of a stroke.

“As a family, we want to thank everyone for your continued and sustained support and prayers for our beloved son, whose battle with kidney failure and sugar diabetes has become an open secret over the years. We wish to regret the passing of our beloved son in private and we will communicate the funeral and other arrangements in due course, “said a family spokesman.

The statement also addressed in detail Menzi’s struggle with kidney failure.

“For the past ten years, the Ladysmith-born actor spent much of his time trying to demystify problems related to kidney disease and sugar diabetes while promoting positive lifestyle changes needed to cope with the diseases.

“Between 2010 and 2015, Ngubane’s many struggles with kidney failure resulted in him being placed on a kidney recipient list and eventually he received a donor who assured him that he continued and maintained his acting career until recently.

“During the following years, Menzi has spoken openly about his health problems and has worked hard to spread kidney disease,” it reads.
