Two women die after contracting Covid-19 at North Wales hospital

Two older women, admitted to the hospital after suffering falls, contracted coronavirus and died.

Eileen Jean Owen, 94, of Cambrian Drive, Rhos-on-Sea, died on April 13 after trapping Covid-19 in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Margaret Byron, 86, died in the same hospital two days later from the virus.

North and East North Wales coroner John Gittins said Ms Owen was found on the street on March 22.

Research was conducted and it was found that he was taking warfarin, a blood thinner, and that he had “traumatic” bleeding in the brain, as well as a fractured pelvis.

The retired secretary was taken to the hospital that day, where she later hired Covid-19.

The cause of death was given by a doctor at the hospital as a coronavirus due to traumatic subdural bleeding.

Ms. Byron was admitted to Bodelwyddan Hospital on February 28 after falling and fracturing her leg.

The retired factory worker had resided at Sanford Care Home in Prestatyn.

He had undergone an operation and was recovering at Glan Clwyd when he hired Covid-19.

As a result of his admission to the hospital, Mr. Gittins deferred the matter to a full investigation.
