Two teens shot dead, three wounded in Mitchells Plain shooting

Cape Town – Five teens were shot in a vehicle in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, on Thursday night.

Police confirmed the deaths of two of the victims, ages 13 and 18, while three others, ages 14, 16 and 18, were injured.

Three of the boys were standing at the corner of Cadillac and Riley streets when they were attacked shortly before 9 p.m.

Moments later, the other two were shot at the corner of Cadillac and Austin streets.

Police spokesman Colonel André Traut says the shooters opened fire from a white car.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident of the shooting Thursday night around 8:50 p.m. at the corner of Cadillac and Riley streets, Beacon Valley in Mitchell’s Plain, where a 13-year-old boy was shot and three 14 others , 16 and 18 years were injured, they are under investigation.

“The occupants of a white vehicle reportedly opened fire on the victims.

“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, and the suspects have not yet been arrested.”

Traut added: “At the corner of Cadillac and Austin streets, Beacon Valley, the body of an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the neck was found.

“The victim was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“The murder and attempted murder cases were opened for investigation.”
