Two prisoners escape from Makhanda prison while serving felony sentences

Two prisoners who were behind bars for serious crimes, including rape, have escaped from a prison in Makhanda, in the Eastern Cape, prompting massive persecution.

Correctional Services spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo said Luzuko Sabatha, 37, and Lonwabo Ngqokwana, 36, escaped on Saturday. They were serving sentences for kidnapping, assault, rape and stock theft.

Muyambo was serving a life sentence after being incarcerated for 21 crimes that included rape, robbery and kidnapping. Chauke was serving a 20-year sentence for breaking and entering.
