Two of the three people charged with fraud of R1.4 million in National Student Financial Aid (NSFAS) funds have been released on bail.
The money was intended for students at a Durban university.
Nosipho Sokhela, 30, and Thabisile Mdabe, 40, received bail of R2,000 each when they appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
Sandile Sokhela, 39, the main defendant in the case, was granted bail of 5,000 rand, but was placed in pre-trial detention for failing to post bail.

“It is alleged that between October 2015 and August 22, 2016, a known suspect allegedly funneled money to three different bank accounts unknown to the institution. The money was for NSFAS-funded students at one of the Durban universities,” it said the police spokesman, Colonel Said Thembeka Mbele.
All three will return to court on April 23.
