JOHANNESBURG – Two people have died and another is in critical condition following a scream on the M1 motorway near the Xavier exit ramp in Johannesburg.

Police and emergency personnel are searching the scene and urging motorists to use alternate routes.

The driver and a passenger of a silver Toyota Corolla were shot dead and a third person, who was also a passenger in the vehicle , was shot and is in serious condition. At this time the motive for the shooting is unknown and Xavier has been closed to traffic. “

Meanwhile, the Gauteng traffic police have closed the M1 Xavier interchange to traffic.

“Traffic is severely affected. We urge motorists to use the Booysens Road Exit Ramp or the Southgate Exit Ramp as alternatives. Avoid the area.”
