Shot to death

Julies, 16, who had Down syndrome, was shot and killed Wednesday night, sparking a riot on the streets of Eldorado Park.

On Friday, Police Minister Bheki Cele and Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko, along with officials from the South African Human Rights Commission, visited the teenager’s family and then told an angry crowd of locals that “whoever committed crime will have to face the law. It doesn’t matter who that person is. “

Julies’ grandfather, James, claimed that his grandson had done nothing wrong and was alone when he was shot point-blank, before being dragged into the police van.

He alleged that Nathaniel also drowned while being dragged into the vehicle.

Furthermore, he claimed that the police had also not been helpful to the grieving family after Nathaniel’s death, as it had been a mission for them to receive a case number.

According to him, no officer had come to the family and the place where the boy was shot to investigate.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, who offered his condolences to the angry family and community, said the violent death of any young man was concerning.
