DStv has confirmed the main sponsorship of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) ahead of the 2020/21 season.
PSL had to find a new league sponsor after their deal with Absa expired at the end of the recent 2019/20 campaign.
The competition was billed as the DStv Premier League by PSL President Irvin Khoza on Thursday night.
The news took social media by storm as most fans noted how this will affect SABC.
The South African public broadcaster will now have to mention the DSTV Premiership when broadcasting its matches.
The announcement generated a lot of reaction on social media and the new season is expected to begin next month.
These are some of the main comments from Twitter:
It will be awkward for SABC to display the DSTV Prime Minister logo.

We will continue to watch games on SABC, we do not need to be awakened because DSTV is the new sponsor of the league. There really is no need to jump to a conclusion.

Sembi kengoku👀 What are the SABC Premiership presenters going to call DSTV going to be interesting? pic.twitter.com/q7dDFi2XTS

So disappointed in PSL, dstv has monopolized the country’s most beloved sport and will now sell some of the games to SABC at bid prices, sorry for those who can’t afford the dstv. How can you allow this to happen? It’s no wonder why absa dropped it all makes sense now. Nxn !!

The problem is that now DStv will make sure that SABC does not offer great games, for me it will not make good competition between SABC ad supersport. The poor will suffer even more. #DstvPremiership #DStvPrem pic.twitter.com/PbRyHialMP

I’m sure the sports analysts at SABC are asking “sithini ke manje ngaloya DSTV every time we talk about the Premiership?” 😂😂#PSLAnnouncement pic.twitter.com/u6QpUYLLt5

@SPORTATSABC I don’t see SABC talking about the new DSTV Premiership trophy. I can’t imagine SABC commentators calling out to competitors when they announce PSL matches or broadcast matches if SABC do.

Well my take on this is that with DSTV taking over the leagues, SABC might as well say goodbye to streaming PSL games because it will be very expensive to apply for the broadcast right. They will force us to buy DSTV decoders #DSTVPREMIERSHIP

So Easy View plus SABC viewers should upgrade to see #Dstvprem on DStv ….

So SABC commentators, analysts, and presenters will be forced to clear DSTV …#CallTheEveryone #DSTVPremiership pic.twitter.com/mgCyoMSB8i
