Medics who responded to the multi-vehicle collision say a truck and four other vehicles collided at the intersection of East and Stapleton Roads last night.

There were no injuries.

But Leon Fourie of Life Response says he wasn’t prepared for what happened next.

After talking to the police, the truck driver climbed back into the cab and tried to back up.

“He jumped out of the truck and hit his head on the ground, the truck spun out of control and a Metro member at the scene tried to stop the truck to no avail,” Fourie said.

Shocking images captured by passersby show the vehicle speeding down the road and a small embankment.

Fourie says the 50-year-old trucker tragically died.

“The truck then continued on Stapleton Road where it pushed vehicles off the road and then crashed into residential property where it went through the wall.

“The truck driver was seriously injured when he fell from the truck. Life Response paramedics attempted to resuscitate the truck driver, but he passed away due to the nature of his injuries.”
