A 39-year-old trucker who lost control of his vehicle and crashed into several others was arrested after Gauteng traffic officials allegedly discovered that his alcohol level was 12 times the legal limit.

The male driver was arrested around 1 p.m. yesterday on the R21 off the Pomona exit ramp and was immediately tested for alcohol.

He was charged and detained at Kempton Park Police Station and is expected to appear in Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

“We condemn this type of irresponsible and reckless behavior by road users, especially during the holiday season, where motorists are expected to save lives. Law enforcement authorities will not rest until ruthless and lawless behavior is eradicated on our roads.” said Gauteng traffic police spokesman Seal. Maremane said.
