Cape Town – A magnitude 3.5 earthquake that lasted 10 seconds shook Saldanha on Monday night, and residents in various parts of Cape Town felt the earth move.
Although the quake was small enough not to cause damage, many people felt weak shaking 100 km from the epicenter, Volcano Discovery reported.
The United States Geological Survey confirmed and said that the depth of the earthquake was 5 km.
On September 26, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake was detected approximately 1600 km offshore in Cape Town, which was then followed by tremors of magnitude 2.5 and 2.9 that were felt even in the northern suburbs.
At that moment a geophysicist warned that it could happen again.
Professor Andrzej Kijko, director of the Center for Natural Hazards at the University of Pretoria, said that if Cape Town were hit by a major seismic event, there would be significant damage to the city’s infrastructure and property.
