JOHANNESBURG – Traffic is being disrupted on several roads and highways due to the National Taxi Alliance strike.

JMPD spokesman Wayne Minnaar said there has been no violence, but there have been long traffic delays on the highways, including the N1 north towards Allandale.

Minnaar said about 40 cars have been on the road since 6:30 a.m., stopping at times and driving very slowly causing long delays.

Officers are monitoring the situation and asking motorists for patience, particularly those traveling north from Soweto to Midrand.

Minnaar said authorities expect delays of about two hours.

Travelers in Tshwane have reported traffic delays in the CBD.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi tweeted that those enrolled affected by the strike should bear in mind that all students will be given a maximum of one hour to be late.

“You can also write your exam at any school closest to you,” the MEC said.
