JOHANNESBURG – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said Wednesday that the infrastructure of the South African Passenger Rail Agency (Prasa) was destroyed by unions that were arrogant, aggressive and hired children to remove cables from rail lines.

Mbalula spoke at Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, where he launched the ministerial security plan.

The strategy involves hiring more than 3,000 security guards to protect the infrastructure from vandals.

It was launched in collaboration with other departments of the Justice, Security and Surveillance group.

Mbalula said they had also realized that in most cases, unions were working closely with officials within Prasa to execute their plans.

“It would be wrong to think that the criminals and unions that are destroying this property have acted on their own. Some of the favorable points that allowed them to have a vacation here and a honeymoon in Prasa are due to our decisions, ”he said.
