A Chatsworth tow truck owner watched helplessly as a mob allegedly looted the overturned vehicle of a seriously injured motorist minutes before he died on the Higginson Highway over the weekend.
The motorist, Pratish Choudree, 46, of Isipingo Hills, south of Durban, will be cremated on Wednesday after the tragic incident late on Saturday.
Eugene Ishwarlall, owner of Eugene’s Auto Assist and director of the Chatsworth Towing Association, told SowetanLIVE’s sister publication TimesLIVE that he was parked at the Chatsworth cricket oval when he heard a loud bang.
“I ran to the road to see what had happened. I could see a car on the roof and a man’s legs dangling. “
The incident occurred near the Chatsglen exit ramp.
“Before I could get to the vehicle, a large group of people surrounded the overturned vehicle and overturned it with the man inside. I think he was still alive at the time. They looted the vehicle and fled. There was nothing he could do to stop them.
