Good evening Tottenham fans. Here are the headlines from Sunday night, September 6.

Bergwiijn tried to convince van de Beek to join Spurs

Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn tried to persuade Donny van de Beek to join the club before his move to Manchester United.

The Dutch midfielder, who moved to Old Trafford last week, was on the radar of several other major clubs in Europe after having drawn attention at Ajax.

And Bergwijn clearly hoped to influence his compatriot, contacting the 23-year-old before it was confirmed that he would sign for United.

“Steven Bergwijn sent me a text message to see if I would play for Spurs,” admitted van de Beek in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad – via the standard of the night.

“But I chose United.”

Redknapp urges Spurs to re-sign Bale

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that signing Gareth Bale would make the club a contender for the Premier League title.

The Real Madrid winger has fallen out of favor in the Spanish capital and his future is in doubt.

There have been no concrete reports of a possible return to Spurs, but Redknapp believes the club should take advantage of his potential availability.

“Of the possible destinations, if Bale returned to Tottenham to team up with a front that was already good, you could see Spurs doing real damage,” he wrote in a column for Sun.

“Bale could change Tottenham from European contender to Premier League title challenger. I’d give everyone a boost.

“Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Bale. If it was my decision, I would put the four of them together and step back to watch the lift off.

“And when I think of Dele playing the supporting role behind those three, my skin tingles.”

He added: “The Spurs need to revitalize themselves, and Bale would do just that.”

Mourinho and Spurs dangerous before the first Premier League match

Spurs appear to be in good shape ahead of the new season despite suggestions from outside the club that they need to make more signings.

Tottenham haven’t spent a lot of money in the transfer window, but José Mourinho is understood to be confident that his team is more than capable of succeeding this season.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty could have been signed for just £ 16.4 million in total, when you factor in the fee Kyle Walker-Peters cost Southampton, and the emphasis at Spurs has been identifying affordable players who can carry team forward.

Many will have already ruled out Tottenham, but Mourinho and his players will certainly enjoy the opportunity to prove them wrong.

And that will make Spurs a dangerous proposition ahead of their first Premier League game against Everton.
