Five months ago, not everyone knew what an N95 mask was … today they cost up to 100 times more than they were originally worth just because of high global demand. We will probably have to wear this mask most of the time. With disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and poor air quality in most urban cities around the world, masks will surely become more common, so it is best if we reconcile with the fact that the N95 mask, so coveted as it is, it is far from perfect. In fact, it’s pretty bad.
There is an inherent set of problems with the common N95. A, it is difficult to breathe, especially during long intervals, B. it is uncomfortable to have that humid air circulating around the mouth, C. for 2/3 of the world population, it fogs up the glasses and D. needs to be removed after a certain point. of time. The N95 mask is not great, and Leandro Rolon and his team set out on a mission to improve it.
Rolon, architect, designer and CEO of his own 3D printing company, realized the big problem that he was breathing contaminated air in China, where he had established his studio. Air quality is not a problem that can be solved in the short term, and although governments still cannot solve this widespread problem, the only quick solution to breathing bad air is to wear a mask … except that these masks were not designed to be used at all times. Leandro soon realized that the best mask was the one that solved the four aforementioned problems. It had to be comfortable and circulate the purified air effectively so that you could breathe easily and your glasses didn’t fog up. The solution required reducing the scale of an air purifier to something that was small enough to fit on your face. Calling it ATMOBLUE, Leandro and his team developed a whole new category of wearables that could actively purify the air of 99.9% of particles, pioneering a technology that made them a kind of Tesla of facial masks, unlike the N95 that only filters 95% of the air. The mask featured “positive air pressure” that helped prevent germs and contaminants by making the air pressure inside the mask higher than the outside air pressure. The built-in fans pushed purified air into the mask, allowing him to breathe normally, and the one-way vents removed the humid air, so his mouth never felt wet and sweaty. ATMOBLUE was designed as an update to the N95, which almost all Asians carried outdoors. Its fan-operated purification system allowed people to breathe clean air easily (a feature that really helped people with inherent breathing problems), and a comfortable silicone border around the mask created a proper airtight seal, making the The air did not drip, which ensured that you breathed fresh air at all times and that if you wore glasses, they never fogged up. ATMOBLUE was designed and prototyped as an R&D project in late 2017. The following year, the product was commercialized and just over 20,000 units were sold across Asia. The team even received rave reviews and awards, such as a Red Dot Design Award, an IDSA award, and first place in the Techcrunch Shanghai start competition … and suddenly one day, news of a mysterious viral illness came from Wuhan. .
Rapidly increasing production to bring his easy breathing mask to everyone who needed it, Rolon and his partners made a variety of updates and released the mask on Kickstarter as a powerful and portable version of their home purifier. Designed to be as small as any conventional mask (and weighing just 190 grams), ATMOBLUE uses two small but powerful fans that draw air through HEPA filters. These filters fit directly on the mask and can be easily swapped out after almost months of use, instead of throwing away your old N95 mask after 2-3 days of use.
ATMOBLUE was originally conceived as a mask to protect people from harmful air particles like PM2.5 (a mixture of small, solid particles and liquid droplets in the air), for people with respiratory problems and for athletes who often need large amounts of oxygen delivered to your lungs while exercising. Since it’s inherently difficult to breathe through an N95 mask, just let it breathe while you’re running down a trail and gasping for air, ATMOBLUE makes it look like you don’t have a mask on. Air reaches your mouth and nose directly, allowing you to breathe as easily as you would without a mask … plus, HEPA filters give you up to 99.9% air purity. The mask’s patented headband system wraps horizontally around your head, giving you complete freedom to move your head as you go about your day, and especially while exercising. The internal fans, which come with three speed settings for airflow, are surprisingly quiet (between 10-45 decibels), and despite the hard body construction and airtight seal on the mask, it doesn’t inhibit your ability to speak . In fact, the vocal clarity is almost the same as with an N95 mask, so you don’t need to remove ATMOBLUE to have basic conversations.
ATMOBLUE’s filter system helps provide cleaner air, while interchangeable filters save costs in the long run and generate significantly less waste. Each HEPA filter can be used up to 150 hours before it needs to be changed (i.e. two months of use if you wear a mask for less than 3 hours per day). Changing the filter is as simple as opening the magnetic cover and replacing the old filter box with a new one. ATMOBLUE even comes with a smartphone app that gives you filter status information, letting you know when to make the switch, and an air quality sensor in the mask even lets you know exactly where the air is in your neighborhood in the quality index. You can even set up your mask’s automatic airflow feature in the app, allowing the fan speed to automatically adjust by using algorithms to measure your breathing pattern … and when you need a new set of filters (ideally every two months), you can order them directly in the application.
To think about it, the only similarity between ATMOBLUE and an N95 mask is its overall size. The N95 mask is a garment, while ATMOBLUE is a portable purifier. As dystopian as it may seem, our future is not fully insured against events that may require the use of masks … at least rarely, if not occasionally. Whether you are a designer in a workshop, a worker in a factory, a scientist in a laboratory, or even a firefighter trying to rescue people through a smoky building, ATMOBLUE helps by being a portable device that is various times better than the current fabric-based alternative. It’s comfortable, safe, efficient, can be worn multiple times … and, as an added benefit, it looks much better than those clinical face masks.

ATMOBLUE – Smart Air Purifier that Blocks 99.9% of Toxic Air
ATMOBLUE is the world’s first smart and portable air purifier. Its patented air filtration system uses replaceable, industrial-grade filters that block 99.9% of air particles.
ATMOBLUE Features
Replaceable industrial grade HEPA H13 filters
– Blocks 99.97% of air particles.
– Average usage time is 150 hours.
– High quality, multi-fold design
Traditional filters are flat and quickly consumed. Its unique filters are made from meticulous folds, compressing the flat surface area of two 9.5-square-inch sheets into two compact filter blocks that slide directly into your mask.
N95
You may have heard the term N95. This simply means that 95% of the air particles are being captured. At the upper end of the spectrum, N99 (99%) masks are offered for more industrial applications such as paint or debris cleaning. Going a step further, ATMOBLUE HEPA H13 filters block 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns in diameter or more. To give you a little context, a strand of human hair is about 75 microns wide.
Innovative airflow technology
– Dual high-speed centrifugal fans continuously supply filtered air to create a refreshing breathing environment.
– Three air flow control settings. Users adjust speeds as necessary.
– Positive air pressure allows users to breathe effortlessly with zero resistance.
The term positive airflow means that excess air or “positive air” is pushed into the mask and out through its vents. Due to this solution, the positive air expels the exhaled air, increasing the overall effectiveness of the mask by removing unwanted bacteria from the breathing zone.
Designed for the most extreme conditions, ATMOBLUE’s multiple airflow setting allows users to switch between light mode, when sitting idle on the train or in a car, to high resistance when jogging in the city or in the job.
Depending on your usage, such as fan speed, your rechargeable ATMOBLUE system runs continuously for 3-5 hours. When the battery life is running low, a red indicator light notifies users when to recharge. Just plug it into any USB port until the indicator light turns white again.
Lightweight silicone seal
Dermatologically friendly silicone creates a soft but watertight seal that keeps good air in and bad air out. ATOMBLUE will not leave marks on the face after each use and can be used with glasses without blurring vision.
The unique silicone seal was designed with users in mind. Data was compiled from over 1,000 people’s faces, and then the team created a unique solution that accommodates faces of various sizes. ATMOBLUE’s soft and lightweight silicone seal fits around the user’s face, leaving enough room for movement and flexibility.
Patented head strap for maximum reach and comfort
With the unique strap channel design, the continuous head strap flows through the mask, around your neck and head, creating a full range of continuous motion.
Designed with athletes in mind, they used flexible, high-quality materials that allowed them to stretch when using their mobile device or looking around their periphery.
Interchangeable skins
Available in four color configurations: Smoke, Pearl, Cement Gray, and Light Pink. Replaceable covers allow your mask to transform and adapt to your style and surroundings. Simply remove the magnetic HEPA caps and remove the front of the mask. Once you have chosen your ideal skin color, simply attach and go.
Designed to wear around your neck when not in use or in your carry bag, the ATMOBLUE compact design features a lightweight design of just 190 grams.
APP control
All ATMOBLUE units come standard with embedded software and application control. The device management application provides real-time air quality indicators, tracks personal metrics and most importantly offers dynamic airflow controls.
