Technology group WeThinkCode has opened applications for its 2021 full-time, fully sponsored two-year coding course, with 300 openings.
The scholarships cover the group’s NQF-5 course, and the training will take place at WeThinkCode campuses in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
“Every year WeThinkCode receives more than 50,000 applications from young South Africans seeking a start in the growing technology sector, which cries out for digital skills, particularly in the area of programming and software development,” he said.
The course has been structured to meet the needs of the South African business environment while bringing out the best in selected candidates.
WeThinkCode said it has a 98% employment rate among its programming graduates, with median starting salaries of R240,000.
“Many of our graduates have subsequently been promoted to senior positions in their organizations,” he said.
No specific knowledge of technology is required to apply, and the course is open to anyone between the ages of 17 and 35.
Interested applicants apply online, where their logic and problem-solving skills are assessed. They can then attend an open house to learn more about the program and complete a critical thinking test.
Applicants then must attend a rigorous boot camp before being selected and enrolled in the two-year program, WeThinkCode said.
The two-year programming course is certified by ICT Seta and gives its graduates an NQF5 rating. The course trains its graduates to be full-fledged developers equipped with the ability to create software solutions within any company.
“There are other economic and social drivers that make this course so important,” the group said. “The technology skills shortage has been exacerbated by accelerated demand across the spectrum of digital transformation and accompanying skills as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is a perfect opportunity for smart and ambitious young people to rethink their careers in terms of technology,” he said.
Interested applicants can apply online.
