Brabus G63 performance upgrade available at 588kW and 1000Nm.

Rich Instagram influencers and important people who might need an armored Mercedes-Benz G-Class, this one is for you.

SVI Engineering, a vehicle armor company, is the official distributor of Brabus Automotive armor products in Africa, starting with the Invicto range.

That is the good news. The bad news is that prices start from R5.4 million. Well, that figure probably won’t make the ultra-rich scoff.

This is what the Invicto range is all about:

Brabus Automotive Undefeated

This series of vehicles represents a high-end armored version of the latest Mercedes-Benz G-Class and is produced by Brabus Automotive located in Bottrop Germany. The so-called Shelter Cell meets OEM factory assembly standards and makes use of hot-formed armor steel plates and innovative 3D-printed parts.

The ballistic protection level is VR6 (stopping AK47), however it is expanded with a side explosion protection to the level of a luxury state limousine.

And finally, the INVICTO VR6 Plus Explosion Resistant Vehicle (ERV) is currently under development.

The customer can select from three different and exciting Pure, Luxury and Mission lines:

Pure

This model is simply “pure protection,” say its builders. With Invicto Shelter Cell and all its protection components, it offers maximum protection at the VR6 Plus ERV level. At the same time, however, the exterior and interior are kept as close to series production as possible. Therefore, Pure is “undercover” in more ways than one.

Security cell

The highest technical standards were also paramount for Brabus Automotive when it came to developing the new armored vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. From the beginning, the overall ballistic concept was designed for a maximum protection effect corresponding to the level of armor. factory OEM.

Unlike other retroactively armored vehicles, the components of the protection system were not individually welded into the vehicle’s body structure. Rather, Brabus Automotive engineers developed a self-supporting, self-supporting, bolted structural cell, the so-called Invicto Refuge Cell.

It is inserted into the body in a disassembled state and then built. One of the structural features of the refuge cell is the jointless design. Armor components are mounted in the shelter cell without any gaps. The inevitable weld seams, on doors, for example, are achieved with overlapping material and so-called labyrinths.

“For the first time anywhere in the world, we use protective elements here, which are produced in an additional manufacturing process on a 3D printer. We are definitely the first to do it,” says Christian Draser.

The shelter cell is validated using the latest processes and methods, which are also used at the OEM. The Brabus Automotive development team combined virtual simulation procedures with real tests on test samples. Only after the individual elements of the shelter cell demonstrated their protective effect, was the entire cell tested in the vehicle.

All material pairings and screw connections were tested by firing from various angles and at projectile speeds far exceeding the standard velocity of the caliber it is protected against. Furthermore, individual assemblies were also subjected to various explosions in preliminary tests in a so-called explosion frame.

Brabus Automotive is also going its own time-consuming path here, as the effect of special protective measures is rarely specifically tested for retrofitted vehicles, the company says.

“On the contrary, we have the entire vehicle certified by a reputable German ballistics authority, both in terms of shots and explosions according to the VR6 Plus ERV resistance class,” says Draser.

Side Explosion Protection (ERV) is on the level of a luxury state limousine.

Improved G-class

The overall vehicle weight added due to armor is comparatively low, around 1000 kilograms, but the chassis load capacity needs to be modified to meet Brabus Automotive’s high requirements for driving dynamics and service life. .

Brabus says the necessary adjustments cover the entire construction of the vehicle’s front and rear axle. The entire wheel suspension, for example, has been replaced by a new proprietary development, while the frame reinforcements around the longitudinal beams and the spring dome increase the strength of the original vehicle structure.

588kW and 1000Nm

The maximum performance of the G63 can be increased by opting for the BRABUS B40S-800 Performance Kit.

The increase in performance is completed with the BRABUS PowerXtra control module for the engine control unit. In addition to an increase in maximum torque from 850 Nm to 1000 Nm, the nominal power increases by 158 kW from 430 kW to 588 kW.

Prices and guarantee

Brabus Automotive offers a two-year or 100,000 km warranty for its products based on the conversion of a new Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
