Johannesburg – Peterson Siyaya, the man who was reported to be the owner of the Mercedes-Benz G-wagon at the center of the Malusi and Norma Gigaba debacle, says he is adamant about not allowing the “white media” to do what you did to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

In her active political life, Madikizela-Mandela was often the center of controversial cartoons and media reports, often linking her to the death of the young activist Stompie Seipeng. In the week of his funeral, the police reported that they never had information or evidence that Madikizela-Mandela in fact killed Seipeng.

Last week, Siyaya instituted civil cases against media companies eNCA, Media24 (City Press), Sunday Times, The Sunday World and The Citizen. In a subpoena seen by Independent Media, Siyaya accused media houses of smearing her name by linking it to the car allegedly scratched by Mngoma.

Media companies also reported that Siyaya was a trade unionist and had faced trial for murder. After consulting with the company registrar, Independent Media learned that Siyaya had registered four companies, but only one had been active.

“They didn’t bother to verify who the real owner of the car was, they went through Gigaba’s social networks and saw my photo with him next to the car and then claimed that I was the owner. Why? Simple and fair journalism would have Solo I’ve been wondering. This was meant to tarnish my name. It’s painful to be tied to the marital challenges of Malusi and his wife. They won’t do to me what they did to Mam Winnie. I have the right to be respected too, “Siyaya told the Independent Half.

Siyaya is suing each of the media companies for 5 million rand for defamation of character. Siyaya’s attorney, Advocate Snethemba Vobi, said the media companies were wrong to link Siyaya to the car.

The National Union of Mine Workers confirmed to Independent Newspapers that Siyaya had resigned from the union in 2016.

Last week, legal expert Busani Tibane told Independent Media that “it was wrong for the media not to investigate and just report.”

“There is nothing wrong with Siyaya being a friend of Gigaba, if he is. What is legally wrong is that media companies don’t do their homework and create false links,” Tibane said.

Also on Thursday, Gigaba dropped the Gigaba surname and reverted to her maiden name, Mngoma. Questions have been raised as to why the Hawks are investigating Mngoma’s malicious injury and injury crime case. A spokesman for the unit explained that it was investigating other, more serious allegations against Mngoma.

Mngoma, 40, appeared in Hatfield Magistrates Court after she was arrested and detained overnight at the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria. Her legal team is headed by lawyer Dali Mpofu.

It is understood with certainty that the accusations refer to a threat to the life of her husband.

The matter was heard in the Pretoria High Court. The trial has been reserved.
