Thekwini City Manager’s Wife Arrested in Durban Solid Waste Tender Scandal

Durban – The wife, the municipal manager of eThekwini municipality, was arrested and charged with alleged participation in the multi-million dollar solid waste tender.

Bagcinele Cynthia Nzuza, 51, appeared before the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday on a charge of corruption.

She is the 17th person to be arrested in this matter, police said.

Colonel Katlego Mogale said: “Ms. Nzuza, wife of Mr. Sipho Nzuza, the municipal manager of the municipality of eThekwini, allegedly facilitated the installation of a built-in kitchen in the home of her mother-in-law and one of the service providers involved in The multi-million dollar solid waste tender reportedly paid R18,000 for the facility. “

Sipho Nzuza was arrested on March 10 by the Hawks National Clean Audit Task Force on allegations of fraud and corruption amounting to the loss of millions of rand within the eThekwini municipality, Mogale said.

He is out on bail of 50,000 rand.

Bagcinele Nzuza was released on bail of 30,000 rand and her case was postponed until 10 December.
